Ed Hale, in support of our event in Kansas City, raised more than $60,000 in 2006 to support the March of Dimes fight against premature birth. This made Ed the #1 fundraiser nationwide. Our national sponsor, Kawasaki USA, rewarded Ed with a 2007 Kawasaki Vulcan. The March of Dimes appreciates Ed's fundraising efforts, and the continued support of Kawasaki USA.

Why do you participate in the March of Dimes Bikers for Babies when there are so many options out there? There's a charity ride or two every weekend during Bikers for Babies season!

I'm working with the March of Dimes because I believe in what you do. I know it's the only way we are going to save babies, and the March of Dimes gets bikers involved because we are some really generous folks.

What do you plan on doing with the 2007 Kawasaki Vulcan?

This year, a member of my posse has worked with me and will earn the bike by hours donated. All of what I do is helped by them, and they help me get my message out there so I can raise more.

What do you like most about the March of Dimes Bikers for Babies? that you can't get anywhere else?

It's the babies, man. You can't get that sense of pride at any other event, seeing hundreds and hundreds of motorcycles lined up for the same reason. When you are at the March of Dimes Bikers for Babies, you really get that the folks there understand it's for the babies. We're all there bringing our money from friends and families, really sharing the mission. It's amazing, just brings a tear to my eye!

What got you to the level you are now? I mean, you've raised more than $100,000 total for the March of Dimes!

It's for the babies! These little ones need all the help they can get ? and bikers know how to get friends to help out! We?re working with the March of Dimes to give all babies a healthy start, and I know we can do it.

What's your motivation to raise money for the March of Dimes Bikers for Babies?

My motivation to raise money is the proven track record of the March of Dimes, for one. The fact that these babies are the most deserving souls on this earth of all of our help and dedication to preserve the life they struggle so hard to keep.

Do you have personal experience with the March of Dimes mission?

I did not have a personal experience until I started fundraising. On countless occasions I've been in the company of folks who the March of Dimes has touched directly, and although I never met these people the bond is very personal.

How have you bettered your total each year?

I've set new goals and involved more friends, some old, some new. It's amazing that I can get someone to stand in front of a retail store all day in the hottest of weather and that person thanks me for the opportunity. They all have a story of how they had such a special day and feeling they really did something great.

When do you start your fundraising?

When do I start! I never stop! The day of the ride is just the yearly turn in the money day. I want my posse to grow, have one at every ride, and one year raise $1,000,000. The sky is the limit.

What tip do you think every rider should know to start raising money?

Just ask, don't be afraid, you are on a mission that you truly believe is for the good of all, so be confident and know the facts. Most of what you need to know is on the March of Dimes Web site.

Can you give us a tip on how to raise money for March of Dimes?

It would be easier to tell you how not to raise money. I've started using Dunk Booths this year at my favorite place of gathering, and we've even sold our spare parts to raise money. Ask your local store if you can set up an event or just ask friends and family, you'll be surprised at the responses.

What in your experience hasn't worked?

It's probably silence. Speak up!

Have you inspired friends and family to volunteer?

Oh man have I. My group is called the posse and they are some of the most dedicated and pursuant people I have ever known. We stand on street corners all day with signs and buckets. Someone will yell "WHO ARE WE" and ten to fifteen Posse will answer "THE POSSE," the one says "WHY ARE WE HERE" we answer "FOR THE BABIES." They are inspired and the most wonderful people I've ever known. Our Posse is in pursuit of Peace, Love, Hope and Charity. Live in peace, spread the love, give and have some hope, and by all means be charitable.
